Labrie French is a championship dancer and trained performer in gymnastics, ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and lyrical. She began studying as a toddler at Clovis Academy Gymanstics and Terry Clark Dance Centres. She continues to perform, educate, mentor and study throughout her evolving career. She has danced “The Nutcracker†in collaboration with the San Francisco Ballet, performed for the Miss Fresno County Pageant, and has worked for the professional dance company Danceline. Labrie has also studied under some of the finest instructors and choreographers New York, Los Angeles, and Japan have to offer, including Luigi, Laurie Johnson, Al Gilbert, Daryl Retter, Kit Andre, Jamie Salmon, Jerry Rose, and Thommie Walsh. In addition, Labrie has danced competitively all over California, winning numerous awards both as a soloist and group performer. Labrie has been teaching dance to children, teens, and adults for over 15 years. Most recently, she has been instructing and choreographing for local studios and students, and participated in the project “Disco Abs featuring Cheryl Burke.â€Â In addition to her creative talents, Labrie has also earned a Master’s degree in Counseling and works both as a hospital social worker and as a crisis interventionist with the San Diego Police Department. Her ultimate passion, however, is to share the art and joy of dance with students and audiences everywhere.
Labrie’s classes generally begin with a warm-up and stretch session at the barre and on the floor. This is usually followed by technique building skills and exercises which challenge center stage balance, as well as incorporate barre work, movement across the dance floor. In addition, students will learn combinations toward the end of each class that will help them apply technical skills, improve memorization and musicality, and enhance performance and entertainment value of the art.
